It’s becoming a really big problem, all the different sizes that are available with bedding, mattresses and comforter sets
The standard sizes of mattresses are twin, full, queen, king, and California king. Most of the time, but not always, these come in uniform sizes which makes shopping for frames, mattresses, and bedding a very simple task to do. But as you would expect, things are not always uniform and different sizes do show themselves.
First off you have what is called a three quarter bed. You have to worry about this when you buy a bed frame set because what you will notice is it’s bigger than a full but smaller than a queen. This can really cause problems. I’ve purchased a queen bed with some amazing luxury bedding, but when it got it home, it didn’t fit into the frame… so make sure you have the right size.
A second size that you should know about are dorm room beds. These are not actually a twin, but longer by some inches. And this is a big issue because most kids come to college with twin bedding that is strictly meant to fit a twin bed. This trend can easily follow suit into many other types of bed sizes from queen to king… they are off by just a few inches but that makes all the difference. And when you are purchasing queen bedding, or any type of bedding for that fact, you really want it to fit correctly.
Lastly, you have to know about the depth of the bed. Most beds these days are around 14″ deep, but more and more mattresses are coming with the pillow tops attached. It’s not always easy to deal with the fact that a pillow top on a mattress can make the depth go from 13″ to 17″ or more. The depth that varies that much can make finding the right bed frame a challenge of making great sheets like silk bedding fit properly.
Make sure that you always measure twice when you are dealing with your bedding. Knowing these measurements will really help you know what you have going against you and going for you for all bedding type purchases. But above all, it will save you the hassle and time of bringing something home that doesn’t quite fit right.
